The truth about Invisalign- get the lowdown here!

Hi Guys,

So you have begun your research into getting braces and have come across Invisalign.
What are they?? How long do you have to wear them for?? …and how much do they cost are the most commonly asked questions!
Let us give you all the information you need to make the right choice for you and your lifestyle.

1. What is Invisalign?
Invisalign are a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually move your teeth into the position set out by your dentist.
Every 2 weeks you put a new aligner in, with each aligner being slightly different to the one previous to it, they gradually move your teeth in stages until they are full aligned.
You wear the aligners for a minimum of 22 hours per day and only take them out to eat and to brush your teeth.
Appointments are routinely every 6-8 weeks as you can change the aligners at home yourself, so they cause little disruption to your day to day life.

2. Will they make me speak funny?
Some people experience no difference to their speech but some people will get a lisp for the initial couple of days after they are fitted with their Invisalign. This disappears and then you will be back to normal and well on the way to your new smile.

3. Do they hurt?
For anyone that has had traintracks when they were younger Invisalign is a walk in the park. There are no brackets and wires with Invisalign so the cuts and blisters you get from other braces you shouldn’t get with Invisalign.
There’s is no monthly appointment to tighten your braces, but you do put a new aligner in every 2 weeks. Each time you out in a new aligner you will feel tightness and pressure as they move your teeth into the next position but this usually only lasts for the first couple of days .

4. How long will I have to wear them for we hear you ask?
With everyone’s case being different, treatment times can be as little as 6 months up to 2 years. It will completely depend on how much movement is required to how long you will be in treatment for, but most people have Invisalign for approx. 12 months.
At the end of your first set of aligners, some people will need a few more made- this is what’s called a refinement.
If you do need a few more aligners to improve the result, don’t panic – it happens, you have come this far so you may as well get your smile as perfect as possible. It doesn’t cost you anything extra and we keep going until you are happy!!

5. You’ve heard they are a great diet!
A lot of people have told us Invisalign should be marketed as a diet aid. Snacking becomes almost obsolete in the first few months. As you take the aligners out to eat, some days you just won’t be bothered to take them out for that mid-morning snack or that afternoon pick me up- instead you will stick to your main meal times! A new smile and you may drop a few lbs #bonus

6. Is it worth it?
Absolutely!! It will be the best money you have ever spent.
Smiling with confidence shouldn’t be over rated and furthermore your oral health will also improve.
